“4TH & JACKSON TOPEKA: POOR BILLS”
Downloadable Art Print of a Watercolor Painting By Romani American Artist J.A. George AKA; The GYPSY
This view of 4th and Jackson is based on a 1970 photograph of that intersection in Topeka, Kansas.
Poor Bills was also known as the Bluebird. It was a neighborhood tavern on the edge of downtown one block from the Police Department at 5th & Jackson. In the background can be seen the back of the Norva Hotel, Topeka’s former Skid Row Dwelling.
Many was the time that my mother would go looking for my Dad and find him in Poor Bill’s shooting Pool or The Bull.
